Precision IP Boot Camp
Course Description
This 5-day intensive course is intended for System Administrators who are responsible for monitoring their network. This course was formerly used to train Micromuse employees and their partners and is now being made available to the public. The Precision IP Boot Camp course covers the fundamentals of Precision IP key processes through a full install and customization. The student will be able work through discovery, configuration, install, and customization of a simulated network hands on. Due to the comprehensive nature of this course, this class is limited to 10 students per camp.
Audience
System Administrators responsible for IBM/Tivoli Netcool Precision IP and System Integrators responsible for deploying the product.
Prerequisites
The student should have knowledge in the following areas:
- Basic Unix
- Basic network management, including basic SNMP and TCP/IP routing and switching
- Basic Unix editors such as VI
Course Objectives
Upon completion of this course, the learner will:
- Obtain an understanding for the essential IBM/Tivoli Netcool core products
- Will understand the components of IBM/Tivoli Netcool Precision IP
- Gain hands on experience in building and configuring discovery agents and filters
- Install Precision on the Unix platform
- Understand discovery as it relates to of IBM/Tivoli Netcool Precision IP
- Know how to perform Layer 3 / Layer 2 discovery
- Learn Object Query Language (OQL)
- Optimize discovery by correctly implementing various filters
- Know how to integrate IBM/Tivoli Netcool Precision IP with other fault monitoring systems
- Be able to arrange the Topoviz Hop View and Network View GUI
- Learn, create, maintain, and optimize Active Object Classes (AOCs)
- Understand, configure, and customize IBM/Tivoli Netcool Precision IP polling behavior
- Discuss multiple real-world designs and architectures
- Discuss methods for automating maintenance of the product
- Actual scripts from production systems will be made available to the student to take.

Day 5 – Testing and Comprehensive Labs
- Hands-on labs covering all course topics
